Religious and Cultural Services

 Opening

In 2008 we opened a small Buddhist monastery in Utica, New York, where we served the religious needs of approximately 50 families who are part of the Burmese refugee and immigrant community in that city.  From 2010 to June, 2013 the monastery and temple was located in Brooklyn, New York.

The Metta Parami (Lovingkindness Perfection) monastery and temple moved and was opened in June 2013 in Buffalo, New York.  Here the large and growing population of Burmese Buddhist immigrant families benefits from the presence of monks to provide their traditional religious ceremonies and to fulfill their spiritual needs.  This monastery and temple is open to all who might be interested in learning the practices, beliefs, rituals, and teachings of Theravada Buddhism, which is the predominant form of Buddhism practiced in the Southeast Asian countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Burma.  Today Theravada Buddhists number over 100 million worldwide, and in recent decades Theravada has begun to take root in the Buddhist revival in India and in the West.
